Earth Simulation Laboratory

For Barcode Architects, Hans Wilschut photographed the Earth Simulation Laboratory at Utrecht Science Park, a former particle accelerator laboratory that has been transformed into a modern research centre for Utrecht University.

The photography focuses on the distinctive architectural transformation, in which the robust concrete structure is combined with a new, transparent façade. The subtle patterns in the façade, inspired by the Dutch delta landscape, constantly change with the light and viewing angle. The photographic series brings together architectural details, spatial qualities, and the relationship between the building and its surroundings.
