The Duration Of Elsewhere

The Duration of Elsewhere brings photography and video together in an exhibition about a slower rhythm of looking and experiencing. Especially in the urban environment, Hans Wilschut searches for ways to give more attention to what unfolds in public space. His images often take just a little more time, and within the everyday there remains a persistent sense of longing for another place.

Rotterdam in Focus

Rotterdam is shown in diverse ways by photographers throughout history. In post war Rotterdam Cas Oorthuys, Henk Jonker and Aart Klein show an orderly, bright and modern city where empty spaces symbolize progress. Photography from the 1960s and 1970s by Carel Blazer and Onno Meeter, offer a new colourful perspective on the city and reflect the social and economic challenges of the time. In the 1980s and 1990s, Jannes Linders and Gilbert Fastenaekens shattered the myth of orderly Rotterdam. They captured industrial estates, vacant buildings and forgotten places allowing the "urban landscape" to flourish as a photographic genre.

The selection reflects on our present time, marked by an acceleration that often seems to slip beyond our control, as if the world is passing through our fingers. Watersnoodmuseum

Skyline, Stadsmuseum, Gent

Skyline. Highrise construction in the Low Lands We recognize people by their silhouette, cities by their skyline. The exhibition ‘SkYline. Highrise in the Low Countries’ challenges our often all too cursory glance at a city. It asks what lies behind the whimsical pattern of stone, steel and glass. And why we are always seeking to build high, higher, highest.

Brutus-Wild Summer Of Art

Wild Summer of Art combines the rut of the new roaring twenties with the brooding excitement of a holiday love and the freshness of a bottom-up artist initiative. This exhibition shows recent work by upcoming talent, mid-career makers and established names from region 010. This exhibition shows where Rotterdam art is and where it is going. It is the artistic thermometer between the buttocks of a feverishly working city.

De Walvis

De Walvis is a story of one building. An office space at Bickerseiland in Amsterdam that got a second life. Commissioned by Maarsen Groep photographer Hans Wilschut follows the process of its reconstruction for almost two years, documenting the site inside and out. While the subject is concrete the artist approaches it in a poetic way, showing the subtle beauty of forms and textures. Go through the book's pages and you will see the building in such a detail as if you were twisting an achitectural model in front of you.
