Solid Light Films and Other Works

For Eye Filmmuseum, I photographed Solid Light Films and Other Works, an exhibition by British-American artist Anthony McCall. Since the 1970s, McCall has explored the boundaries between film, sculpture and architecture. His monumental light installations transform projections into almost tangible, three-dimensional forms. In darkened spaces, beams of light become visible through a fine mist, creating shifting volumes that visitors can freely move through.

Photographing this exhibition was a particular challenge. The constantly shifting light sculptures, the deep darkness and the presence of visitors required a careful balance of perspective, exposure and timing. The aim was to capture the fleeting, almost immaterial quality of the work while conveying its powerful spatial experience.
