Continuous Diversity
The Houtrustkerk in The Hague presents the group exhibition Continuous Diversity, featuring work by Natasja van Kampen, Martin Pot, Ewoud van Rijn, Frans Verschoor, Marcel Wesdorp and Hans Wilschut. The exhibition takes Landscape and Architecture as its point of departure, not only as physical environments, but also as mental, social and historical spaces.
From their individual artistic practices, the participating artists explore the relationship between people, place, memory and imagination. Against the backdrop of social change and a renewed engagement with history, the exhibition raises questions about identity, belonging and community.
The work I am presenting, Refuge, focuses on the people behind an urban disaster: residents who, from one moment to the next, lost their homes and their sense of security. The work calls for empathy with lives forced to move between temporary and vulnerable places. By placing emptiness alongside human presence, it reveals what loss, displacement and uncertainty mean for a community and for the urban environment in which it lives.
Opening: 26 September at 3:00 PM
with an opening address by minister Karl van Klaveren.
The exhibition can be visited every Sunday after the church service. At other times, visits are by appointment only.
