Milano Design Film Festival
La Nave is screened in November 2020 at the Milano Design Film Festival in Milan, where the film has its Italian premiere. The selection is significant, as the film appears in Italy itself, within a context where architecture, urban imagination, and social reality directly collide. The festival takes place from 6 to 8 November 2020 and is held online for this edition.
In La Nave, Hans Wilschut turns his attention to Le Vele in Scampia, Naples, a housing complex that has acquired almost mythical proportions in the history of Italian architecture, yet usually remains trapped in clichés of crime, decay, and failed urban planning. The film takes a different approach. What comes to the fore is not sensation, but the daily presence of residents, the scale of the buildings, and the charged atmosphere of a place that is at once an architectural icon and a lived social reality. This makes the screening in Milan especially fitting: the film appears there not only as a documentary, but also as a work that reveals how architecture, politics, and everyday life are intertwined.
La Nave has been selected for the Milano Design Film Festival from 6-8 november 2020. Due to current circumstances the screenings will be online only.
