Gouda from 1562 to 2017
Gouda is one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. In its historic centre, time sometimes seems to recede for a moment, and the medieval city can still be felt in its streets, squares, and façades. Museum Gouda makes this long history tangible with an impressive model of the city as it appeared in 1562. At the same time, the city also shows that no urban image ever stands still. Buildings disappear, new volumes emerge, and each period adds its own layer. At the invitation of Museum Gouda, Hans Wilschut creates a series of photographic works of Gouda in 2017. In the museum’s collection, he finds points of departure, images, and stories that are brought into dialogue with his new work. What emerges is an encounter between past and present, between the constructed image of the city and the city as it reveals itself to us today.
On Thursday, 30 November 2017, Museum Gouda is organizing a debate on the occasion of the exhibition Gouda from 1562 to 2017.
