BANK
For the book BANK, een gebouw bouwen, Rotterdam-based visual artist and photographer Hans Wilschut follows step by step the making of a new Eindhoven landmark: the Rabobank office building, designed by the renowned architecture firm UNStudio. For this series, he quite literally seeks out height. From a construction crane, he first looks down onto an immense void, a vast expanse of sand that reveals nothing yet is already full of promise. What begins as an almost abstract landscape of sand, lines, and open space slowly turns into the birthplace of a building.
In the months that follow, Wilschut grows alongside his subject. He is there as the ground plan begins to take shape, as steel, concrete, and rhythm take over the site, and as the scale of the building moves from distance to proximity. From that same elevated position, he witnesses how an idea is transformed into form, mass, and presence. In this way, BANK, een gebouw bouwen shows not only the making of architecture, but also the intensity of a process in which a building slowly acquires a face of its own. Through the eyes of Hans Wilschut, we witness conception, growth, and completion, the moment when a construction site becomes a distinctive new address in the city.
