When the wind moves across the desert, it lifts dust from the الأرض and carries it away through the air. What begins as something small, almost invisible, can grow into a storm that rewrites sky and horizon. In parts of West Africa, this dust can become so dense that the sun fades for days and the world disappears behind a dull veil, as if the landscape itself has been pushed into the distance. Flights are cancelled, outlines dissolve, and daily life slows beneath a sky that no longer clears.

Sometimes this movement reaches much farther than expected, and desert dust drifts all the way to northern Europe. In Viana do Castelo, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, that distant phenomenon takes on an unexpected closeness. It is as if another world, carried by wind and time, briefly settles over this place.
