Petrified wood looks like wood, but it is not. It resembles jade, yet it is not that either. It carries a soft sheen and a warm, smooth texture, giving it an almost mysterious value. It reveals not only the richness and brilliance of jade, but also, in its growth rings and weathered bark, preserves traces of time long past.

The conditions under which it forms are exceptionally demanding, and the nonrenewable nature of these fossils makes petrified wood a precious and wondrous stone, one that nature has left to humankind.
