Stratification is a work made in Rio de Janeiro, a nocturnal landscape in which social relations become visible without being made explicit. In the image, the city emerges as a gradual transition of light intensity, from the bright concentration of high rise buildings to the more scattered, flickering lights of the favelas.

What is at stake here is not architecture itself, but the way differences in dwelling, wealth and position are translated into light. The city thus unfolds as a social fabric, layered and charged, in which inequality is not depicted as an incident but as an atmosphere. What may appear almost abstract from a distance reveals, on closer inspection, a precise portrait of a divided city, written in gradations of light.
