Visions on Green is a series of ten large-scale photographic works by Hans Wilschut that examines processes of greening in and around the city of Zwolle. The project focuses on sites where urban space and landscape intersect, and where ecological, spatial and social transformations become legible in the built and cultivated environment.
The series includes a food forest, in which landscape acquires a renewed meaning as a site of cultivation, ecology and collective use. A view of the river IJssel presents a territory shared by humans and animals, where land and water form a dynamic and interdependent habitat. Elsewhere, a houseboat district appears as a hybrid environment in which dwelling, infrastructure and nature gradually fold into one another. Across the series, greening is approached not as an ornamental gesture, but as a structural shift that redefines how the landscape is organised, inhabited and understood. Originally installed in a former NS machine factory in Zwolle during Visons of Green Cities photofestival, the works entered into a subtle dialogue with the industrial history of the site. Yet the central focus of Visions on Green remains the contemporary landscape itself: a landscape in transition, shaped by changing ideas about nature, urban development and shared space.
